BARCELONA on tour for their acclaimed debut Absolutes
Nov/Dec 2008 dates announced with Low vs Diamond!
"Not only the best local debut of 2007, it might be the best local release, period, of 2007...
The album’s production is almost impossibly adroit for an outfit so young." - Seattle Weekly
"Barcelona has created music that catches your breathe and imagination... gives you a sense of magic.”- Boston Globe
New York, NY: Seattle-based melodic indie band Barcelona hit the road in November and December with L.A. rockers Low vs Diamond (Epic Records) and Paper Route (Motown) in support of their gorgeously produced, self-released debut album, Absolutes (licensed and distributed by Curb Appeal Records). The album’s lush, piano-driven compositions and shimmering production created a splash on the competitive Northwest music scene. Since their debut, Barcelona has toured extensively and received more than half a million MySpace views and over a million plays, building a national presence with their atmospheric arrangements and intelligent lyrics that convey a musical sophistication beyond their years. Even more impressive is that the band is completely DIY and has done it all with no label support.
Barcelona grew out of a solo project by up-and-coming Seattle singer/songwriter Brian Fennell (vocals, keyboards), who’d recorded a solo debut, Safety Songs. Fennel assembled a band to tour for the release and recruited childhood friend Brian Eichelberger, a classically trained violinist who switched to bass, and college buddies Chris Bristol (guitar) and Rhett Stonelake (drums). As the chemistry clicked and the quartet’s sound evolved, Fennell realized his musical ambitions were best suited to a band. His “solo project” has since evolved into the melodic indie rock machine that is Barcelona.
Starting with three tracks from Fennell's solo disc as their starting point – "Numb," "Response," and "Colors" – Barcelona crafted a new batch of songs led by Fennell's soaring vocals and the band’s sophisticated arrangements, resulting in the 11 tracks on Absolutes. During the recording, Barcelona was courted by publishing heavyweight Warner Chappell to an exclusive co-publishing deal that helped secure distribution for the disc through Curb Appeal Records.
Now, with their first full-length album under their belts, Barcelona is hitting the road to showcase the new songs for the fan base they've built on the West Coast and beyond. Please call for press, interview or guest list requests or to be serviced with Absolutes.
