“...a typical masterstroke.” Rolling Stone

“Immaculate powerpop… Intricately layered pianos and guitars, summery harmonies and hook filled choruses… Brimming with chart topping potential **** 4 stars” Q

“…a melodically rich near-classic…**** 4 stars” American Songwriter

Brendan Benson scores his highest charting solo album with My Old, Familiar Friend (ATO Records).   The Gil Norton produced album debuts at #1 on the Heatseekers Chart dated August 26th.   Benson already has two top 10 hits on the Billboard 200 with The Raconteurs.

In the middle of his current North American jaunt,  Benson will stop by Jimmy Kimmel Live on September 9th.  He’ll be performing the undeniably catchy single from My Old, Familiar Friend “A Whole Lot Better.” Check out Brendan’s recent performance on August 21st on The Late Show with David Letterman:

Brendan Benson and his band return to the road this November for an extended North American tour, hitting major markets from coast to coast. Watch this space for confirmed dates and venues.

My Old, Familiar Friend is a marriage of passion and perfectionism and an illustration of all that is special about Brendan Benson. From the seductive glimmer of “Feel Like Taking You Home” to the Motown swoon of “Garbage Day” Benson has shaped his restless-hearted stories into songs that fit together with exquisite neatness. Benson’s musical approach is detailed, craftsman-like and fastidious. Take for instance “A Whole Lot Better,” in which harmonies, hand-claps and guitar are layered to produce a work of heart-felt buoyancy- a work that culminates in the sweet, dove-tailing swoop of its refrain: “I fell in love with you/ And out of love with you/ And back in love with you/ All in the same day.” The album is comprised of songs that arrive perfectly formed and immaculate, the sound of a classic singer/songwriter operating at the top of his game.
