The indie rock band Cloud Cult began releasing a unique series of short documentary films called “Stories from the Road” this week via the Matador Network.
For these poignant vignettes the band turned the camera away from
themselves and pointed it toward their fans and supporters. The series
highlights four inspiring stories of individual fans the band has met
while on tour. Each of the stories focuses on people who have overcome
incredible obstacles in their lives and instead of being crushed by the
struggle, they chose to bring beauty to the planet in the process. These videos, which were directed and produced by Jeff D. Johnson of Motion 117 Productions, are a small handful of the many inspiring stories Cloud Cult fans have shared with the band and all of these stories are the fuel that powers the Cloud Cult ship. In an era when the bulk of news media focuses on the negative things going on in the world, the band felt it was important to bring attention to the people whose powerful life stories inspire hope in humanity and that is what they hope to achieve with “Stories from the Road.” Cloud Cult will be releasing one episode each week on Monday at 3pm EST through the month of September via the Matador Network with the first episode being released yesterday. In Episode One you meet Spencer. The story of Spencer is every hiker's nightmare. But what happens to him after is so rare, that you can't help but think miracles can come true. FEEL LIKE MUCH OF THE MEDIA focuses on the negative stories out there,
and that leaves many of us feeling uninspired about humanity. But if you
look at the bigger picture, you start seeing there are many people out
there doing absolutely amazing and inspiring things, and they just don’t
get the same kind of attention,’ says Craig Minowa, lead singer for the
band Cloud Cult.
This was the impetus behind Cloud Cult’s new webseries, Stories from the Road, which looks at the most challenging moments in the lives of fans. The idea was conceived while touring, Minowa says. “The crazy thing is that after night, the stage lights are shining on us, but there is a crowd full of people who have amazing and inspiring stories that they have been living through, who deserve to have the lights on them. So this series of films is our chance to take the limelight away from us and shine it on some people who deserve to have their stories told, and it teaches us that the real “show” isn’t about what’s going on on stage, but rather with how people choose to live and perform in their everyday lives.”
