Jillette Johnson touring with Mary Lambert

posted Oct 30, 2014, 1:19 PM by Vu Nguyen
Creating authentic and infectious pop that bleeds with heart and soul is no mean feat. Save for Jillette Johnson - taking songwriter cues from esteemed artists like Fiona Apple and Stevie Nicks, potently combined with the attitude and indie aesthetics of modern-day alterna-pop favorites St. Vincent and Tove Lo, the New York based artist made her stunning debut with album, “Water In A Whale.”

And today, Johnson announces her support on the forthcoming Mary Lambert tour across the States, set to kick off later this fall. "I'm thrilled and honored to open up for such an outspoken powerhouse of a talent. It's so inspiring to be surrounded by artists who actually have something to say," says Jillette of the upcoming tour.

Produced by Peter Zizzo (Vanessa Carlton, Avril Lavigne) and Michael Mangini (Joss Stone, David Byrne), “Water In A Whale,”  journeys from the energetic and emphatic, to the heartbreaking and comforting. The release was received with critical acclaim earning praise from major tastemakers like Elle, Perez Hilton, NYLON and Marie Claire not to mention buzz from well respected outlets throughout the blogosphere.

With a hint of the spit and grit of her hometown New York, Johnson’s voice screams of a youthful optimism- and is one that is impossible to ignore. Leading with the explosive track, “Torpedo,” Johnson muses, “I wrote it about my relationship with my career and my unwillingness to give up on my dream."

“I've been writing and playing music for whoever would listen since I was a little kid, and with that has come a lot of rejection and heartache. ‘Torpedo’ is about absorbing those blows to my ego and then bouncing right back up to fight.”
