Jónsi Announces Spring Tour!
On April 6th, Sigur Rós front man Jón “Jónsi” Thor Birgisson will release his solo debut, Go (XL Recordings), and set out on his first solo North American tour. The tour, which begins in Vancouver, BC, will see Jónsi teaming up with 59 Productions to create a dazzling stage atmosphere that will brilliantly complement his phenomenal new songs. The result is set to be one of the spring’s most incredible live shows. 59 Productions is an exciting production design team that is known for creating on-stage environments using the latest technology and artistic expertise. This magical display, coupled with Jónsi’s epic songs, will make for an incredible live music experience that should not be missed.
Additionally, Jónsi has just shot the first video for the album for the song “Go Do.” Directed by Arni & Kinski (previously responsible for no fewer than six Sigur Rós videos), the video was filmed on location in Iceland at the end of 2009, when there are only four hours of daylight. Based around a bird motif, the video reflects the song’s giddy springtime urgency, and is yet another brilliant visual from the Sigur Rós camp.
Go completes a personal journey for Jónsi away from the wordless and near-brutal sonic monoliths of Sigur Rós’ untitled ( ) album, and is a bold stride beyond the career-redefining pop of “Hoppipolla,” and even the explosive percussive assault of the last album’s “Gobbledigook.” Ecstatic, dramatic and alive, it features Jónsi’s signature vocals throughout, with the majority of the songs sung in English. Created with his free-spirited collaborators – composer Nico Muhly, percussionist Samuli Kosminen, his Riceboy Sleeps partner Alex Somers and producer Peter Katis – Go explodes from the speakers with sheer happiness and wonder, wide-eyed and eager to be heard.
