Just
2 weeks into their national tour with sellouts in every major market
including: Austin, Los Angeles, San Francisco, Portland and Seattle, the
Madison via Baraboo, WI sextet announce their 2nd single and
accompanying video for "Kingfisher." The track - a layered, upbeat
punchy number - has also been anointed as iTunes Single of The Week
(for July 8).
The video was directed by band member (guitar, banjo, vox) Zach Johnston. About the video and song, Johnston said:
"Kingfisher is a song about longing for a certain person romantically and then realizing that you may have invented the whole infatuation in your head. Who knows how things would have turned out had you actually been in a relationship with this person. The video for Kingfisher is about the longing and the heavy burden, the dream and possibility, and the return to harsh reality - with the added element of friendship that surrounds that situation. The video also in some ways represents our songwriting process too. At least I think so."
PHOX's eponymous album premiered last month over at NPR's first listen and was praised for its "impeccable arrangements," noting that the debut undoubtedly "has a way of seeping under the skin." Produced by Brian Joseph at April Base Studio in Eau Claire, WI and mixed by Michael Brauer at Electric Lady Studios, the album is a school of simple folk-pop songs swimming amidst a chaotic eddy of rock, psychedelia, and soul.
PHOX will continue making stops in various major markets, as well as festivals including Newport Folk Fest and Shaky Knees. For the band's full tour itinerary, please see below.
