In an effort
to unite instead of isolate, The Alliance of Sound plans
on bringing the different flavors of electronic music together for
an unforgettable tour. For perhaps the first time in the history
of electronic music, two of the biggest and most disparate names
in electronic-based music – SKINNY PUPPY and
VNV NATION, are banding together for a 17-date
tour of North America, with support from HAUJOBB and
YOUTH CODE. Kicking off at the end of November
at Toronto's Sound Academy, the tour will circle the continent,
and wrap up at Pomona, CA's Fox Theater in December. Tickets
will go on sale on Friday, July 25, 2014.
Vancouver's Skinny Puppy have been major voices in issues that plague society, from vivisection to pollution to drugs to even the advent of AIDS. When news of the U.S. government's usage of their music at Guantanamo Bay hit the news in the last year, media surrounding the band's political and cultural impact resurfaced in NPR, Rolling Stone, Vanity Fair and hundreds of other outlets, reinforcing the band's place in musical history. Their most recent album, Weapon, stands as an abstract commentary on that which it is named; reflecting that everyday and seemingly safe, inert technologies are actually killing us, thus becoming weapons. With their unique and formidable ability to combine very melodic, danceable electronics with haunting and powerful lyrics, Irish/English duo VNV Nation have built a massive fanbase, playing to hundreds of thousands of fans at both their own sold-out shows and major rock festivals worldwide. Their massive hits "Chrome", "Beloved" and "Illusion" are club staples that still pack dancefloors. Their latest two albums, Automatic and Transnational have thrust Ronan Harris and Mark Jackson to a wider audience seeking substance and meaning over mainstream superficiality and artifice with Top Ten albums for both in European charts . More ambient
and textural, Germany's Haujobb have explored the
electronic musical spectrum from electro-industrial to IDM ("Intelligent
Dance Music") to techno and created a soundscape all their
own. Hailing from Los Angeles, hardcore-based Youth Code
are a raw, punishing and hardcore-based electronic duo
of Ryan William George and Sara Taylor
who blends WaxTrax-styled chaos with catchy dance
undertones.
