The Tinderbox Festival began as an outlet to celebrate the immense amount of talent among female performers in NYC and the press response was fantastic.  From Bust to Brooklyn Vegan, Venus Zine to Progressive Wednesday, local and national support of the festival has lead to Tinderbox's exciting sophomore year.

Tinderbox  donates 100% of its net proceeds to organizations involved in empowering the next generation of female artists including Girls Write Now, an organization providing guidance and opportunities for NYC’s underserved high school girls to develop their independent voices and explore careers in professional writing, and the Willie Mae Rock Camp for Girls, a non- profit music and mentoring program empowering girls and women through music education and activities.

"All the proceeds from Tinderbox went directly back to arts services for girls through Girls Write Now and the Willie Mae Rock Camp for Girls. What’s not to love about that cycle completing itself? A community of women gets together to form a space for women to play music and then donate all the cash to organizations that teach girls how to rock and write? Well done, Tinderbox."

Summer Songwriting Workshop
Continuing to support women in music, Tinderbox held their first no-cost Tinderbox Arts/Girls Write Now Songwriting Workshop at the end of July where NYC's young women were paired with professional female NYC songwriters (some of them Tinderbox artists) to create, perform, and record original songs.
